GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) -

Incoming Storm:

As early as Thursday afternoon, precipitation is expected to fall after lunchtime, specifically in the higher elevations. This precipitation starts off as scattered showers and evolves overnight into stronger showers on Friday.

Showers become stronger throughout Friday and then into Saturday. Both Friday and Saturday are now First Alert Weather Days due to the high amount of snow possible in the mountains and the strong likelihood of rain in the valleys. Snowfall ranging from 1-2 feet is possible over the northern mountains. 5-10 inches of snow is likely on the Grand Mesa.

Radar imagery shows widespread storm coverage over the entire western half of Colorado on Friday and Saturday. Precipitation appears to be strongest on Saturday. The chance for precipitation continually increases, reaching 50% on Friday and 70% on Saturday.

Wind:

Afternoon winds start again later today. Gusts as strong as 20 MPH will occur around 3 PM this afternoon. Wind speeds will also be strong throughout the next few days as we approach the storm.

I-70:

Traveling on I-70 will be difficult because of this storm system. Heavy snow is expected over parts of the interstate, possibly causing closures or delays. This is more probable on Saturday.

Highs & Lows:

Today, the high in Grand Junction is 84°. Delta will reach 82°. Montrose is set to reach 78°, and Cortez is set to reach 77°.

Tonight’s Lows are 52° in Grand Junction, 46° in Delta, 48° in Montrose, and 40° in Cortez.
