Hawaii’s State Capitol will once again be adorned with creativity and culture as the annual “Art at the Capitol” event returns on April 12. Hosted by the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts in collaboration with the offices of Representatives Ganaden and Tam, as well as Senator Lee, this cherished event has been a staple for over a decade. Kelley went down to the Capitol to talk to Rep. Ganaden and Karen Ewald, Executive Director of the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts.

Karen shared that attendees can anticipate an evening filled with artistic exploration and entertainment. Several legislators will graciously open their doors, allowing the public to immerse themselves in a diverse array of artwork from the Art in Public Places collection, as well as selections from their personal collections. Additionally, the event will feature captivating performances by esteemed organizations such as Ballet Hawaii, Honolulu Theatre for Youth, HIFF, and the Hawaii Youth Symphony.

When asked about his favorite aspects of “Art at the Capitol,” Representative Ganaden shared his enthusiasm for the celebration of contemporary art and the vibrant display of artistic diversity in the Capitol’s rotunda. Karen also expressed appreciation for the visible support of the arts by legislators, highlighting the event as a testament to the thriving cultural scene in Hawaii.

It will be a fun night of art, performances and food that you won’t want to miss! For more information visit capitolmodern.org.
