Philadelphia, PA (WPHL) — Philadelphia Police are investigating a dog attack that turned into an officer-involved shooting in West Oak Lane, last Wednesday.

Police say the incident occurred on April 17 at 8:08 a.m. when a PPD officer responded to a dog attack on 2100 Eastburn Avenue.

When the officer arrived, she observed a large pitbull dog attacking a pomeranian on the sidewalk.

The owner of the Pitbull attempted to separate the dogs but was unable, requiring police assistance.

The officer deployed her taster to attempt to stop the attack but was unable to stop the Pitbull.

That is when the officer shot three rounds, stopping the Pitbull.

The Pitbull then turned towards the officer, which is when the officer discharged her weapon again striking the dog in the rear leg.

The owner then regained control of the Pitbul and transported it to the University of Pennsylvania Veterinary Hospital for treatment.

The badly injured Pomeranian was transported to ACCT, but sadly it did not survive.

PPD says the whole incident was captured on the officer’s body camera.

The officer is 31 years old and an eight-year veteran of the Philadelphia Police Department.

As will all shootings, the officer has been placed on administrative duty pending the Internal Affairs and Officer-Involved Shooting investigations.

The incident is currently under investigation.
