Good Samaritan spots fire, pulls woman out of burning Beverly, Massachusetts home
Firefighters battled a fire early Friday at a home in Beverly, Massachusetts, that injured two people.
A good Samaritan who was driving to a medical appointment just before 7 a.m. saw flames coming from the home at 3 Berkley Ave.
Video from the scene showed smoke billowing out of second-floor windows.
"The first crew who arrived found heavy fire on the second floor coming out of the side of the house," Beverly Fire Department Chief Peter O'Connor said.
The woman, resident Melinda South, suffered second- and third-degree burns and was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital. Another man inside the house suffered burns to his hands.
Pet parakeets were also rescued.
The good Samaritan’s identity remains a mystery. The man left the scene saying he was late for a medical appointment.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The family said it may have been started by refilling a butane lighter.
The home is likely a total loss.
