Crimestoppers extends reward in 2021 murder of Shawn Brock, family still pushing for justice
On Wednesday, Crime Stoppers announced they are extending a reward for information in the murder of Shawn Brock.
According to Crime Stoppers, they are extending the reward because the case is not closed and the family is hopeful someone will come forward with information.
The mother of Shawn Brock, Sharon Varnado, said life has not been the same without her child.
“As time goes on, you know, I'm still grieving about it,” Varnado said.
On Jan. 25, 2021, Varnado received a call saying her son had been shot. According to the New Orleans Police Department, Brock was shot at the Willows apartment in the New Orleans East, then drove about a mile away to Salem Drive, where he crashed and was pronounced dead.
“I just, it was like, it was unreal, it was like I just saw him,” Varnado said.
Darlene Cusanza with Crime Stoppers said they're working with investigators on leads, but they need more information to find closure.
“This will never be forgotten, and we certainly hope not only today, but we find justice very soon for Shawn,” Cusanza said.
Brock's daughter, Rayven Roberts Brock, has been hoping for that justice. She said her dad, who was a well-known barber, was filled with life, and losing him is unlike anything she's ever experienced.
“It hurts. It's a lot, but I'm just praying to get through it,” Brock said.
Brock, who is set to graduate from nursing school Thursday, said the person who killed her father also left a void that cannot be filled.
“This is one monumental thing for me that he won't be here for. You know he won't also be able to walk me down the aisle. He won't be able to see his first grandchild,” Brock said.
Brock's family tells WDSU they hope someone speaks up and knows at some point, justice will be served.
“I'm not giving up. I'm not giving up,” Varnado said.
Crime Stoppers said that a reward of $5,000 will be offered through June 15, 2025.
