AFTER HEARING TESTIMONY FROM A FAIRFIELD TOWNSHIP DETECTIVE, THE JUDGE FOUND THIS CASE OVER TO A GRAND JURY. AND MARES FACES TWO FELONIES. AGGRAVATED ROBBERY AND TAMPERING WITH EVIDENCE. AFTER AN AFTERNOON OF GARDENING CAME TO AN ABRUPT END FRIDAY FOR TWO SISTERS, SOMEBODIES HERE? YES, MA’AM. WHEN POLICE SHOWED UP AT AN MEIGS HOME WHERE SHOVELING SAND. THE 74 YEAR OLD APPEARED IN COURT TODAY. INVESTIGATORS SAY SHE EVENTUALLY ADMITTED TO THE CRIMES. SHE BASICALLY SAID SHE SHE WAS SHE WAS HARD OF MONEY AND SHE. THAT’S WHY SHE DID IT. SHE SHE WOKE UP ONE MORNING, DECIDED TO ROB THE BANK. SHE TOLD US SHE’S MENTALLY FINE. UM, SHE JUST DID IT BECAUSE SHE NEEDED MONEY. HER SISTER TOLD POLICE SHE SUSPECT MARES WAS RECENTLY SCAMMED OUT OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS BY A PERSON SHE MET ONLINE, CLAIMING TO BE WITH U.S. CUSTOMS AND POLICE. SAY WHAT MARES DID WAS PLANNED OUT. THEY SAY BEFORE THE HEIST, SHE REMOVED HER LICENSE PLATE FROM THE BACK OF THE CAR. THEN THEY SAY SHE TOOK OFF HER CLOTHES, THREW HER CLOTHES OUT A WINDOW. An afternoon of yard work came to an abrupt end Friday for two sisters when police showed up at Ann Mayers' home in Hamilton.Body camera footage released by Fairfield Township police shows what transpired."Somebody's here?" Mayers' sister said as police officers arrived at a back gate. "We're shoveling sand.""Mayers can be heard saying, "I'm coming ... I don't hear well."An officer asked her, "Do you have any weapons on you?"Mayers said, "Lord no. What did we do?"Mayers did not offer much information at first. She appears cooperative and is even heard chatting with officers and laughing as she casually sits on a ledge out front."You want to get in my car?" Mayers said to an officer.Her car was in the driveway. Investigators said used that to commit an armed robbery at Aurgroup Credit Union in Fairfield Township less than two hours earlier."We want to talk to you about an issue that happened today," an officer said."OK," Mayers answered. Mayers was taken into custody and charged with aggravated robbery and tampering with evidence.The 74-year-old appeared in court on Wednesday for a preliminary hearing.Fairfield Township Detective Ruie Dutra said Mayers eventually admitted to the crimes."She basically said she was hard on money. That's why she did it. She woke up one morning and decided to rob the bank," Dutra said. "She told us she's mentally fine. She did it because she needed money." According to a police report, Mayers' sister told police she suspects Mayers was recently scammed out of thousands of dollars by a person she met online claiming to be with United States Customs.Detectives said what Mayers did was planned out. They said she removed her back license plate before the heist and threw the clothes she wore out of the window afterward.Police said they did recover a gun and almost $600 from her car. The case was bound over to a Grand Jury.Mayers' bond remains at $100,000.
