COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - On Saturday night, hundreds gathered to provide hope, support, and resources to Lexington Medical Center cancer patients at the annual McDaniels Auto Group Gala.

The annual golf classic that kicked off the event was held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday at the Fort Jackson Golf Club.

The gala, which WIS helps to sponsor, took place at the Pastides Alumni Center in Columbia. The station’s very own Judi Gatson and Billie Jean Shaw were the night’s emcees. Since 2018, this event has raised over $3 million in 200 thousand dollars for life-saving cancer programs and services.

“Cancer doesn’t discriminate, it gets everybody,” said Bill McDaniels, president and founder of McDaniels Auto Group. ”Whatever we can give back to this community, we want to give back.”

The funds raised help enhance cancer care at Lexington Medical Center. This year, they will specifically be used to replace all the oncology care chairs for patient comfort.

Officials say their golf tournament and gala raised more than $756,000 last year, and are hoping for similar totals this year.
