DUNNELLON, Fla. (WCJB) - Three men are behind bars for committing more than 40 vehicle burglaries in Marion County starting in February.

Marion County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Warren Cavagnaro, Kyle Thompson, and Michael Madigan for their connection to burglaries in Dunnellon, West Marion, and other Northwest Districts.

On April 18th, deputies were on a surveillance operation for vehicle burglaries when they got an alert about four vehicles being broken into near Northwest 121st Avenue. The MCSO Aviation Unit found Cavagnaro walking in the area.

Deputies say they also saw him drop a bag of cocaine on the ground.

When initially questioned, Cavagnaro claimed he was just going for a walk and denied being involved with the burglaries. Madigan was also located nearby, and he told deputies he drove Cavagnaro and Thompson to the area to break into vehicles.

On his second interview with detectives, Cavagnaro admitted to stealing from the vehicles and breaking into multiple vehicles every night for the past two months. He said that he stole things from unlocked vehicles and skipped the locked cars, and he took at least eight guns from the vehicles.

Cavagnaro told deputies Thompson was with him for most of the burglaries he committed.

Cavagnaro was then asked about an additional 10 burglaries in the On Top of the World neighborhood on March 20th, and he denied having any involvement in the crimes. Due to the suspicious nature of Cavagnaro’s statements about On Top of the World, detectives conducted a follow-up interview with him a few days later.

During the interview, he admitted to being responsible for the burglaries in On Top of the World. He provided specific details about the burglaries, including stealing a gun and stealing a Toyota SUV because he needed a ride home.

On April 24th, Thompson, who is a registered sex offender, was located by the MCSO Sexual Offender and Predator Unit. He was interviewed by detectives and admitted to his involvement in the April 18th burglaries.

Thompson was charged with four counts of burglary of a conveyance and three counts of petit theft on no bond.

Cavagnaro was charged with 12 counts of burglary of a conveyance, 12 counts of theft, four counts of armed burglary of a conveyance, two counts of possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and one count each of grand theft of a motor vehicle and possession of cocaine on no bond.

Madigan was charged with four counts of burglary of a conveyance and is being held on a $10,000 bond.

Property Crimes Detectives are continuing to investigate multiple burglaries committed by Cavagnaro, Thompson, and Madigan throughout western Marion County, and they say additional charges will be coming soon.
