MIAMI (WSVN) - A Florida man is in custody after police say he drove to a police station with his girlfriend’s body in the passenger seat of his SUV and confessed to killing her.

Alexander Roque, 48, is charged with second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of his girlfriend, 44-year-old Yessenia Rodriguez Marquez. He appeared in a Miami courtroom Monday, where Judge Mindy S. Glazer denied him bond.

“You killed the victim then driving around in the car with her and sending pictures of her lifeless body to people,” Glazer said. “The state may charge it as a first-degree murder.”

Investigators say Roque has confessed to killing Marquez. He allegedly drove to the Florida City police station with her body in his SUV late Saturday to report what he had done.

Officers say the gun used in the crime was found inside the SUV before it was towed away as evidence.

Before driving to the station, investigators say Roque contacted two people: his cousin and Marquez’s estranged husband. He reportedly sent both of them photos of the victim’s body in addition to showing Marquez’s husband her body during a video call. Both witnesses called the police after Roque talked to them.

Roque’s motive in the case remains unclear.

The Miami-Dade Police Homicide Bureau has taken over the investigation.

Roque is expected back in court Tuesday.
