LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man was charged with murder after a woman was hit and killed while riding a bicycle near the Standiford neighborhood early Tuesday morning.
According to Louisville Metro Police spokesperson Aaron Ellis, officers responded to the intersection of Preston Hwy and Durrett Lane around 12:40 a.m. Tuesday morning for a report of a pedestrian hit.
When they arrived, they found a woman who was dead. She was identified Tuesday night by the Jefferson County Coroner's Office as Jennifer Lynn Davis, 39.
Witness statements revealed that she was traveling northbound on Preston Highway when she was hit by a black pickup truck who was also traveling northbound, according to Ellis.
The driver of the vehicle, Juan Fernando Munzo Alcala continued to drive northbound after the collision and did not stop, according to police.
A call came into MetroSafe a short time later from a man stating he had been in a crash on Preston Highway earlier that night, according to Ellis.
Officers responded to the 3300 block of Preston Hwy, where they found the driver. Police believe that he had been involved in the fatal hit and run.
Munzo Alcala was arrested and charged with murder, wanton endangerment and operating a motor vehicle under the influence, among other charges.
He appeared before a judge Wednesday morning for his arraignment, where he pleaded not guilty. He is being held on a $75,000 bond.
