NWS confirms 5 tornadoes in Ohio during Wednesday’s storms

CLEVELAND, Ohio — At least five tornadoes touched down in Ohio during the latest round of severe weather, including an EF-1 tornado in Portage County that generated winds of 110 mph, causing extensive damage.

This adds to the 38 tornadoes that had been confirmed in Ohio in 2024, which leads the nation. The worst was an EF-3 twister on March 14 in Logan County that killed three people and injured more than 20.

The National Weather Service in Cleveland confirmed three tornadoes. This included an EF-1 in Bucyrus in Crawford County that touched down just after 4 p.m. and stayed on the ground for about five minutes, covering 3½ miles. It had a maximum width of 100 yards and generated winds of 110 mph.

No injuries were reported, but Crawford County Now reports there was extensive property damage and power outages.

An EF-0 tornado touched down near Champion in Trumbull County just after 7 p.m. and remained on the ground for about five minutes, covering three miles. It generated winds of 80 mph and had a maximum width of 20 yards.

The tornado did uproot some trees and caused some property damage. No injuries were reported.

A tornado, about 65 yards wide created a path through Windham Township that was nearly four miles long. The tornado hit shortly before 7 p.m. and lasted about six minutes. It damaged property, closed roads, downed power lines and disrupted traffic on the Ohio Turnpike, with most damage starting near Bryant Road and Ohio 303 in Windham Township. There were no reported injuries.

The National Weather Service in Wilmington confirmed two tornadoes, an EF-1 in Clark County and an EF-0 in Champaign County. The EF-1 had maximum winds of 90 mph and the EF-0 topped out at 75 mph. Both tornadoes uprooted trees and caused damage to outbuildings and homes, including blowing out some windows.
