OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (KCTV) - With the Overland Park Farmers Market back open for the season, more fresh produce should start showing up in local tiny pantries.

On Saturday morning, April 20, brand-new vendors - as well as familiar faces - graced the Overland Park Farmers Market for the opening day of the 2024 season. Some of the new vendors include Happy Hollow Farm, Food Haus, Morningside Blooms and Slow Rise.

This season’s market features local vendors that sell items from locally grown and sourced produce and meat to skin care products and honey. But, what happens with the produce that does not get sold at the market? One vendor from Redfearn Farms uses it to give back to the community through the organization Tiny Pantry Times.

“They’ve been sending volunteers after the farmer’s market to pick up unsold produce,” said owner Sheri Redfearn. “So, we’re able to give that produce second life, and every week we end up with some extra. So, I send it back with volunteers and they get it out to people that very day.

Redfearn also noted that her farm was able to donate nearly 1,000 lbs to Tiny Pantry Times in 2023.

The Overland Park Farmer’s Market is open from 8 a.m. until noon every Saturday at 7950 Marty St.
