Work to do for 16th seed Robert Milkins tomorrow as he is 4-5 behind against China's Pang Junxu.

Just the two half-century breaks each in that session - 83 and 91 from Milkins, 57 and 84 from Pang.

That one finishes on Tuesday evening from 19:00 BST, with David Gilbert, who defeated last year's champion Luca Brecel, waiting in the last 16.

  3. 'Over the moon to beat a seed'published at 22:51 22 April

    G Wilson 5-10 Bingham

    Michael Emons
BBC Sport at the Crucible Theatre

Stuart Bingham, the 2015 champion, is in the last 16 after a 10-5 win over 10th seed Gary Wilson.

Bingham, 29th in the rankings, is not yet thinking of whether he can win here again, with his immediate focus on trying to maintain his top-32 place.

If he drops out of the top 32 then he would have to qualify for the four Home Nations events as well as the German Masters.

"Gary missed a few and I punished him at every chance so I'm over the moon to beat a seed and still be in the tournament," said Bingham.

"It hasn't been a great two years and I need another win just to keep my top-32 place for the season.

"I've come here knowing I can do it. I don't feel like my game is as good as it was [when he became champion] and I was a bit tense in my arm. I've had a couple of poor seasons, I can't hide from that, and have lost too many deciders."

  4. 'If you feel like you are embarrassing yourself there are problems'published at 22:39 22 April

    G Wilson 5-10 Bingham

A disconsolate Gary Wilson was wondering where he goes next in his snooker career after losing 10-5 to Stuart Bingham.

Wilson had won two ranking events this season and was seeded 10th, but lost in the first round. He said: "I just felt awful, flat and I really didn't want to be there. There are no positives. I didn't even feel good at the best tournament in the world.

"It was almost like I was having to think 'why is it like this' and I'm sick of battling. I wasn't up for the battle today, I tried a bit harder tonight but when you know you're not playing well enough you're just scraping around.

"Stuart played better than me, I was pathetic. It's getting me right down and I can't carry on like that but I'm doing quite well and making money. I'm really not enjoying it and putting myself through torture. If you feel like you are embarrassing yourself there are problems.

"I just want to play decent and show off what I'm capable of, but I felt as flat as a pancake out there."

  5. Bingham through as another seed fallspublished at 21:44 22 April

Job done for Stuart Bingham, the 2015 champion, as he clinches a deserved 10-5 success over Gary Wilson and another seed falls.

We're only three days in and already the first, fifth, ninth, 11th and now 10th have seeds are out already.

Bingham plays the winner of the Ding Junhui v Jack Lisowski match and that one starts on Tuesday morning at 10:00 BST and ends on Wednesday morning.

  6. Work for Milkins to dopublished at 21:18 22 April

Another seed in the top half of the draw is in a bit of trouble.

We've already seen top seed Luca Brecel, fifth seed Mark Selby and ninth seed Ali Carter all lose in the top half, and now 16th seed Robert Milkins has made a bad start in his match against China's Pang Junxu.

A break of 57 gave Pang the first of his three frames, but Milkins took the fourth, although he is yet to register a half-century break.

David Gilbert, who knocked out last year's champion Brecel, awaits the winner, although this match won't be finished until Tuesday evening.

  7. Bingham two frames from victorypublished at 21:09 22 April

    G Wilson 5-8 Bingham

    Michael Emons
BBC Sport at the Crucible Theatre

Stuart Bingham, the 2015 champion, is two frames from the last 16 after a thrilling first four frames in the evening session, which saw both him and Gary Wilson claim two frames apiece.

Bingham missed a deciding black in the last seconds of the first session, which would have given him a 7-2 lead instead of the 6-3 advantage he ended up with.

In frame 10, Bingham held a 42-0 advantage, but Wilson's 86 break pulled one back, and he got another one soon after, this time Bingham letting a 48-0 lead slip away with Wilson winning it with a break of 57.

In the 12th frame Bingham again hit the front at 54-9 ahead before he faltered, but this time it didn't matter as he took the frame.

It was Wilson's turn to lose his lead in the 13th frame as he left an underhit blue hanging over the pocket after a break of 34, with Bingham's run of 66 leaving it at 8-5.

    Tonight's matches

Well then, another seed in Mark Selby bites the dust. He joins defending champion Luca Brecel, Zhang Anda and Ali Carter in exiting the tournament in the first round.

Will Gary Wilson join them later? You can tune into that one on BBC Four and watch as Robert Milkins and Pang Junxu get their match under way.

  9. Bingham establishes healthy lead over Wilsonpublished at 18:11 22 April

    Wilson 3-6 Bingham (19:00 BST)

In a recent interview, Gary Wilson said the Terminator and Back to the Future movies are among his favourites.

He probably wouldn't mind turning into Arnold Schwarzenegger or doing a Marty McFly the way things are going for him against Stuart Bingham.

The 2015 world champion, Bingham led 5-1 at one stage in their opening session with Wilson looking well short of the form that helped him win the Scottish and Welsh Opens earlier this season.

However, he managed to take two of the last three frames of the session to put a slightly different complexion on the match which resumes this evening at 19:00 BST.

Mark Selby is obviously not enjoying being out there. I've seen him back stage and he has been as chirpy as ever but when he gets on the table there has been something about snooker he is not happy with.

That is where he should be most comfortable so he needs to have a think over the summer and see what he can do about it.

  13. Williams takes narrow lead into second sessionpublished at 18:02 22 April

    Williams 5-4 Si

While we were hearing from Joe O'Connor and Mark Selby, Mark Williams was knocking in a 63 break to take the final frame of the first session against China's Si Jiahui.

They resume to a finish at 14:30 BST on Tuesday.

It's not like it was years ago. I remember being a qualifier here making my debut here against Stephen Hendry and lost 10-4. Debutants and qualifiers didn't really make a dent in the tournament.

Players like Stuart Bingham and Stephen Maguire were grenades in the draw. All of the qualifiers come through sharp and hungry. The first round is like the first fence at the Grand National, it is chaos and I am glad to be through it.

Earlier on Monday, Murphy beat Lyu Haotian 10-5 to reach the second round.

  15. Selby reviewing his optionspublished at 18:00 22 April

    Result: Selby 6-10 O'Connor

More from Mark Selby, speaking to BBC Two: "I will definitely still review it [my future] in the summer because in the first session I felt I stopped myself from playing well when I had my chances and I can't keep doing that because it makes me ill and it gets me down mentally.

"I tried to get on with it and play but it's easy to do that when you are 7-2 behind and your back is against the wall because you have nothing to play for. You let you arm go.

"I will sit down with [his wife] Vikki and see what the options are. It will be a big decision but if I do carry on playing I need help, probably on the mental side of it a little bit more, to just go out and enjoy the game a bit more. That's what I want to do.

"For me it's always been like life and death, I've always been that kind of character, always putting too much pressure on myself and trying too hard. With what I've achieved I should just be able to go out there and play, but I stop myself from doing it every time."

More from Joe O'Connor following his win over Mark Selby, having led 7-2 overnight: "It [fight back] is what he does.

"I expected a completely different Mark today from yesterday. He started off differently, all of the long balls were going in. It was a bit of added pressure that I knew was coming.

"He said well done, I'd played great and go on and win it, so that's what I'll try to do."

On whether taking part in boxing and martial arts training helps his focus and mental clarity: "Maybe it's not the sole factor of me having a good temperament, I think I was born with that. I've had throughout my pool career and snooker career.

"It's just a different way of thinking, there are different challenges that you face. The worst thing in the world is getting punched in the face! So anything else is better than that."

  17. 'I lost it in the first session'published at 17:53 22 April

    Result: Selby 6-10 O'Connor

Mark Selby, speaking to BBC Two: "If I had won the frame at 8-5 it is a different game. I had to keep him on eight. Once he gets to nine, because of the lead he had, it's quite comfortable. I tried today and that's all I could do but it just wasn't quite good enough.

"I've known Joe since he was eight or nine years old. He is a great lad with a lovely family and it is great to see him doing well. I probably didn't want to draw him because we practise together and even though he's a debutant I knew he would feel comfortable out there playing against me because he is so used to it.

"I lost it in the first session. From 2-2 to 5-2 I was really poor. I thought Joe played well but I just made it too easy for him in the first session."

  18. O'Connor 'lost for words' after beating Selbypublished at 17:52 22 April

    Result: Selby 6-10 O'Connor

Crucible debutant Joe O'Connor, speaking to BBC Two after beating Mark Selby in the World Championship first round: "I'm pretty lost for words, I don't know what to say. It was a dream draw for me to play Mark at the pinnacle of our sport, and it's amazing to win.

"I quite like how tight it is and small it is, it reminds me of where I practise. I settled quickly, a lot of people can be steamrolled there. I got out 2-2 and played quite well from there."
