OAKLAND — Oakland police officers shot and killed a Sacramento homicide suspect late Wednesday in West Oakland, police said.

Sacramento police confirmed the man killed was 33-year-old Dominique Broadt.

The shooting happened in the 1000 block of 16th Street at Linden Street after officers responded there just before 9:30 p.m., according to a statement from Oakland police.

Authorities said Sacramento police had an arrest warrant out on Broadt for shooting a woman dead on March 3 in what they described as a domestic violence incident. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office identified her as Rama Alsarraj, 34, of Sacramento.

Police said that as Oakland officers arrived and started securing the area on Wednesday evening, Broadt came out of the residence with a gun. Officers fired at the suspect, fatally wounding him, police said.

Broadt died outside the home, despite subsequent first aid and other treatment from the officers, police said. A gun was found near him, according to authorities.

Investigators have not said how they were able to track him to 16th Street.

None of the officers were injured.

Police did not say how many officers fired, nor did they identify them right away. Those Oakland officers, in accordance with police policy, were placed on paid administrative leave, pending an investigation by the department’s homicide division, internal affairs division, Oakland Community Police Review Agency and the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office.

The last time an Oakland police officer fatally shot someone was in November 2023 near City Hall, when a police sergeant got into a confrontation with an armed man near 16th Street and San Pablo Avenue and exchanged gunfire with the man.
