Bedford’s Autumn Becker stays out front in a 100-meter hurdles at the PIAA District V Track & Field Championships at Northern Bedford High School in Loysburg, PA., Wednesday, May 17, 2023.

BEDFORD, Pa. – Highlighted by Chloe May’s two victories, Autumn Becker’s triumph in the 300-meter hurdles and also a win in the 1600 relay, Bedford claimed the team title at Saturday's Giant Eagle Invitational, narrowly topping Somerset 128.83-121.

Forest Hills (105.5), Richland (99) and Central (58.83) rounded out the top five in the girls team competition.

May won the 1600 in 5 minutes, 19.35 seconds and the 3200 in 11:37.22. Becker broke the tape in the 300 hurdles in 48.58 seconds. The Bisons took the 1600 relay in 4:15.98.

The other double winners on the girls side were Richland’s Sasha Garnett, who won the discus with a throw of 107 feet, 7 inches, and then took the shot put with a toss of 44-8, and Somerset’s Kamryn Ross, who took the 100 in 13.08 seconds while capturing the 200 in 26.85.

Forest Hills’ Mylee Glessner won the 100 hurdles in 16.18. Berlin Brothervalley’s Deborah Bozovich won the 400 in 1:02.38. Emily Fisher, of Somerset, topped the field in the 800, crossing the line in 2:32.46.

Somerset’s 400 relay team won in 49.75, while Forest Hills’ 3200 relay team took first, completing the loops in 10:59.49.

Richland’s Essie Salem topped the high jump, clearing the bar at 5 feet, which was also the height cleared by Forest Hills’ Olivia McLeary. Forest Hills’ Monica Krug won the pole vault, heading over the bar at 10 feet.

Central claimed the boys crown, tallying 117 points with Richland (110.5), Bedford (94.5), Everett (70.5) and Tyrone (63) following in the top five.

Meyersdale’s Tristan Ohler won the 100 in 11.16 seconds, edging Richland’s Evan McCracken by .03. Ohler also claimed the 200 in 22.76. Richland’s Jude Mugerwa won the 400, crossing the line in 51.51.

Other area individuals who claimed gold on the track were Bedford's A.J. Koontz as he won the 300 hurdles in 41.35, while Forest Hills’ Tyler Caron took the 3200 In 10:32.44.

Richland (400 relay) and Bedford (1600 relay) were the area winners in the boys relays.

In the field events, Forest Hills’ Ayden Martinage took the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 10 inches, Meyersdale’s Bryson Hetz uncorked a throw of 170-9 to win the javelin, Logan Gossard cleared 13 feet to win the pole vault for Richland, while Somerset’s Maverick Swank landed a triple jump of 42-5 to take that event.
