According to the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office, 24-year-old Dillan Michael Tennant was convicted last month of two counts of cruelty to children in the first degree by a jury in Catoosa County, Georgia.

Between March 14 and March 16, 2023, investigators claim the Georgia man became extremely angry after his 2-year-old son and 3-year-old daughter made a mess in their bedroom. At the time, the father and his two children were living with his father, mother, and brother in Rossville, a small town in the Chattanooga, Tennessee metro area.

Investigators claimed that after finding the children in the messy room, he would go on to repeatedly physically punish them in the days that followed. The district attorney’s office said, “Tennant became enraged because while failing to properly supervise the children, they made a mess in the bedroom. Tennant struck the children repeatedly over the course of two days.”

Prosecutors also claimed that the father used a “board” to beat his son, further detailing that he “beat them repeatedly” and “left horrific bruising on the toddlers.” A press release added, “Tennant then left the residence he shared with the children’s grandparents and uncle and took the children to a male friend’s home in an attempt to conceal the injuries he had inflicted on his children.”

After returning home with his children, who had severe bruising from being beaten for not cleaning their room, the Georgia man’s parents quickly called the cops. Upon police arrival, officers questioned the Georgia man, but he denied any involvement in the children’s injuries. Instead, he alleged that “another family member was likely responsible for the injuries.” However, he still appeared questionable as he had “admitted to observing the severity of the injuries on his own children,” but “never attempted to seek medical treatment for them.”

During Tennant’s trial, several child welfare advocates referred to the bruising on his two children as some of the worst they had ever seen in their career. When a doctor took the stand to testify, they said that none of the injuries could have been accidental and that they only could have occurred due to “repetitive strikes using a great degree of force.”

Since his arrest, the Georgia man has been found guilty of two counts of cruelty to children in the first degree and has been sentenced to 30 years in state prison. He was also ordered to serve the first 15 years without any possibility of parole.

Additionally, Judge Chris Arnt ordered the man to not have any contact with his children or any unsupervised contact with any other children. Meanwhile, District Attorney Clayton M. Fuller said, “This child abuser will have plenty of time to clean his room in the Department of Corrections.”
