The Air Force Academy announced Tuesday that Vice President Kamala Harris will give the keynote speech at graduation on May 30.

As vice president, Harris is part of the regular rotation of speakers for the academy, which graduates about 1,000 cadets each year. This is her first time speaking to the Air Force Academy graduating class.

The president, secretary of defense and secretary of the Air Force are also part of the rotation as keynote speakers at the Academy.

Last year President Joe Biden gave the address highlighting global conflict, including Russia's war in Ukraine and the rise of new war-fighting challenges, such as artificial intelligence.

Since then, the war in Gaza started in October, contributing to rising global tensions. Harris has been advocating for a cease-fire in Gaza, paired with a release of Israeli hostages.

Last year she gave the keynote address at West Point, where she highlighted how those young leaders will help lead the adoption of new technology, such as using AI to predict the movements of enemy fighters or delivering support to troops with autonomous vehicles.

"You see what can be, unburdened by what has been," she told graduates, according to a transcript of the speech.

The Air Force Academy graduation is open to members of the public with tickets and will again feature a Thunderbirds performance.

The ceremony will also be livestreamed.
