BLOOMINGTON — The Illinois Valley Flute Ensemble and Bloomington-Normal Flute Club will be presenting an "Inspired by Starved Rock" concert in Peru on Sunday and again in Bloomington on April 21.
Sunday's show will be at 3 p.m. at Zion United Church of Christ, 1521 6th St. in Peru, and the April 21 performance will be at 3 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, 1617 E. Emerson St., Bloomington. The concerts are free, but offerings will be accepted for the Bloomington-Normal Flute Club's low flute fundraiser, which is used to acquire bass and alto flutes.
The selected music is meant to depict nature and inspire images of eagles soaring over Starved Rock State Park, or of Native Americans singing in the canyons.
The Bloomington-Normal Flute Club is an adult ensemble for players of all abilities. Formed by Rachel Bailey, an instructor at The Music Shoppe in Normal, the goal is to provide a space for these players to grow as musicians and have a musical outlet without judgment or undue stress, according to a news release.
