MUNCIE, Ind. — A man has been charged in Delaware County after a Thursday morning police pursuit ended in a fatal crash near Ball State University.

According to court documents filed on Monday in Delaware County, 28-year-old Zacrey Antrim was charged by both Indiana State Police and Delaware County in relation to the pursuit and the crash. Antrim was charged by Indiana State Police for:

  • One count of resisting law enforcement causing death, a Level 3 felony
  • One count of resisting law enforcement causing serious bodily injury, a Level 5 felony
  • One count of criminal recklessness resulting in serious bodily injury, a Level 6 felony.

In Delaware County, Antrim was charged with:

  • One count of criminal recklessness, a Level 5 felony
  • One count of disregarding a traffic control device, a Level 5 felony
  • One count of disregarding a traffic control device, a Level 6 felony
  • A misdemeanor count of reckless driving.

The crash occurred Thursday morning at the intersection of McGalliard Rd. and Tillotson Ave. and caused the death of 25-year-old Nicholas Wayne Woolums.

The driver of a Dodge Dart, who police allege is Antrim, drove from a Henry County deputy after they initiated a traffic stop for a traffic violation. The documents said that the deputy believed that Antrim might have been impaired while driving.

FOX59 and CBS4 later confirmed that the Henry County Sheriff’s Deputy initially involved in the chase was not a graduate of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy at the time of the crash.

The documents allege that during the pursuit Antrim drove the Dart at speeds of 70-100 miles per hour through Muncie on city streets, from the city’s south side, through downtown and to the west side of the city before traveling up to the northwest side. The pursuit ended when the Dart crashed into a Jeep at the intersection of McGalliard Rd. and Tillotson Ave.

“This pursuit traveled approximately 15 miles on state, Muncie City and Delaware County roadways,” the documents read.

After the crash, Antrim, as well as the driver of the Jeep, were taken to a hospital. Officials with the Indiana State Police led the investigation.
