75-year-old man arrested, charged with sex crimes from 2003

A man was arrested Friday, suspected in a kidnapping, rape, and sodomy that happened more than 20 years ago.

A juvenile reported to the Auburn Police Department on October 4, 2003 of an incident that she says took place in the 1400 block of Lee Road 57. She says someone forced her into a wooded area and subjected her to several acts of sexual violence.

Police were unable to develop a suspect at the time.

Recently, cold case investigators sent evidence to the FBI's Combined DNA Index System (CODIS), which returned 75-year-old Bobby Lee Pitts as the suspect.

Pitts was taken into custody on April 26, 2024, on warrants for first degree kidnapping, first degree rape, and first degree sodomy. He was taken to the Lee County Detention Center where he is being held without bond.
