Accused shoplifter charged with trying to slash his way out of Bayonne store

A Jersey City man trying to steal steaks from the Walmart in Bayonne attempted to slash security officers when he was confronted, Bayonne police said.

Steven C. Felton, 61, was arrested April 18 after he fled the store and he was charged with robbery, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and possession of narcotic paraphernalia, Bayonne Capt. Eric Amato said. The knife police say he used in the incident was recovered.

Felton was taken into custody when officers responding to the Walmart, already given a description, located him in the area of 22nd Street and Route 440.
