A statement from the company said this version, 4.0, had specific requirements that pertained to APIs.

The company explained that PCI DSS was a set of security standards designed to ensure that organisations that store, process, or transmit credit card information had effective security in place.

Akamai also announced it had seen demand for its API Security offering grow since its acquisition of Neosec last year.

It claimed customer demand had risen by 200% since the launch in August 2023 and attributed this to adding a native connector feature, which allows production deployment in minutes.

Also credited was the ability for API Security to instantly block threats using App & API Protector, apart from offering integrations for deployment across leading WAAP and API gateway platforms.

The statement said Akamai API Security worked well with other tools, like Apiiro’s ASPM offering.

The importance of API security was emphasised in Akamai’s latest State of the Internet report which found nearly one-third of Web attacks target APIs.

Haim Inger, chief technology officer of Clal Insurance and Finance, a leading insurance and savings company, said he relied on APIs to drive innovation, and chose Akamai API Security due to its performance and ease of use.
