EAST HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A man has died after being struck by a vehicle Tuesday night on Interstate 84 in East Hartford.

The eastbound side was closed between exits 58 and 59, while the HOV lane on the westbound side was closed beyond Buckland Street.

State police said a Toyota Prius was driving in the HOV lane when it struck 28-year-old Randy Casado of Brooklyn, NY. Casado sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver of the Prius stayed on the scene following the crash and was transported to Saint Francis Hospital with suspected minor injuries.

The area was closed at about 8:40 p.m. but has since reopened.
