CAPE NEDDICK (WGME) -- The Center for Wildlife is helping a Maine bald eagle after he was hit by a vehicle on the highway and suffered serious injuries.

The Center for Wildlife says someone saw the eagle get hit. The rescuer took action and brought him straight to the center.

The center says the eagle suffered a compound bone fracture and soft tissue damage.

He is currently in the ICU under guarded condition and prognosis.

“He definitely does not feel well after all that trauma and is not eating on his own. But he is such a survivor and still perching and defending himself,” Center for Wildlife Executive Director Kristen Lamb said..

Lamb says they are hoping he can be stable enough to be moved from the ICU in the next day or so.

Due to his plumage, the center says they can tell that he is at least 5 years old.
