DYER COUNTY, Tenn. - West Tennessee Drug Task Force Agents conducting a search warrant recently recovered much more than a hiding suspect, officials said, resulting in new charges for a suspect.
Agents with the 29th Judicial District in Dyersburg entered a house about 8 p.m. on First Avenue to make an arrest. While looking for the man - on probation with nine prior felony convictions - who was inside hiding, agents found a loaded rifle in the bedroom, according to a police report.
A probation search additionally resulted in the seizure of rifle magazines, a vest, handcuffs, a police baton, ammunition, a police scanner, a red and blue light and about 10 grams of suspected methamphetamine.
Numerous felony crimes were charged against the man that included possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell, possession of a weapon during the commission of a dangerous felony, and a felon in possession of a weapon.
Task Force Director Johnie Carter said, “Felons with guns and drugs are bad enough, add the possession of these police related items and I can only imagine what potential crime(s) these astute Agents and Investigators may have prevented.”
Officials with the District Attorney General, 29th Judicial District Office, are prosecuting the case.
