American Red Cross ready to respond to storm damage

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – The American Red Cross is one of the organizations that quickly responds to storm damage.

The American Red Cross says they have both a permanent disaster response staff in Wichita and volunteers that transport blood and drive emergency response vehicles. Those vehicles, known as ERVs, head out to a disaster and can help by providing food or providing emergency supplies.

Volunteers can be called on to respond to many kinds of emergencies, from storm damage to house fires.

“We’ve got a 24-hour line that you can call if something happens to you or your family, there’s damage to your home, or you’re in need of help; call us at 1-800 RED CROSS,” said Logan Wright, Regional Communications for the American Red Cross.

Most of the people who respond to a disaster are volunteers, about 90%, so it is often your neighbors who are coming to help after a disaster.

Logan says volunteers are ready to respond quickly to an emergency.
