The Park City Sunrise Rotary Club apologized on Wednesday for inadvertently scheduling its Shot Ski event on Yom Kippur, Judaism’s holiest day of the year.

However, unable to find a suitable date to reschedule, the club has decided to continue with the event at its original date, Oct. 12, citing an expected return of around $45,000 to Summit County and Wasatch County nonprofits.

“… we feel it is important to continue this tradition of giving back to our community,” the club said in a press release. “We share our sincerest apology to those of the Jewish faith for this oversight,” the release said.

“Traditionally, Shot Ski has been held on the second Saturday of October, which had yet to overlap with Yom Kippur until this year. The Park City Sunrise Rotary Club was unaware of the overlap given the regularity of our event schedule, and we would not have scheduled this date had we been aware of the overlap in our initial planning meetings. As a club, we are very aware of the issues Jewish children are facing in our school system, and we are in full support of our community as we walk through this very challenging time together.”
