HAVERHILL TOWNSHIP, Minn. -- Authorities are investigating the death of a person whose body was found Wednesday afternoon in Olmsted County.

According to a news release from the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office, a caller told authorities they were walking their dog in the wooded area near the Gordan W. Yeager Wildlife Management Area and Silver Creek Road NE when they observed what appeared to be a deceased person lying on the ground.

Authorities were not able to identify the person because of their "prolonged exposure to the elements."

The Southern Minnesota Regional Medical Examiner’s Office took possession of the body.

The Olmsted County Sheriff's Office said it doesn't believe there is any risk to the public.
