ForbesToday's 'Wordle' #1042 Hints, Clues And Answer For Friday, April 26th

Welcome to the weekend, dearest Wordlers!

It’s been a hot minute since we took a look down memory lane at all the big and important things that have happened in history over the centuries. Here are ten significant events that took place on April 27th:

  3. 1565 - The first Spanish settlement in the Philippines was established in Cebu City.

  7. 1865 - The steamboat Sultana, overloaded with Union prisoners released from Confederate prisons, exploded on the Mississippi River, killing over 1,800 of the 2,400 passengers in one of the worst maritime disasters in American history.

  9. 1961 - Sierra Leone gained its independence from the United Kingdom.

Wordle Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.

Today’s Wordle worked out rather nicely for me. I guessed chime because I was thinking about how I overslept an appointment on account of my being sick and how my alarm didn’t go off. CHIME just popped into my head. Turned out to be quite lucky, with just 84 possible solutions remaining.

From here, I decided to juggle my yellow boxes around, and good thing I did. SMEAR knocked out every remaining guess except the Wordle: GLEAM for the win!

Competitive Wordle Score

I get 1 point for guessing in three and another for beating Wordle Bot, who guessed in four. Huzzah!

How To Play Competitive Wordle

Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.

If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word "gleam" originates from the Old English word "glǣm," which means brightness or splendor. This word, in turn, is derived from the Proto-Germanic "*glaimiz," which is related to "glow," signifying a shining light or brightness. The notion of light or brightness is central to the word's meaning and usage over time, indicating the visual effect of a soft or radiant light. This etymological path reflects how the term has maintained a consistent association with light and shine throughout its history.
