Sheriff’s Office requests help to identify person of interest in car theft

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is requesting help to identify a man suspected of being connected to a car that was stolen from outside a Cedar Hill home. In a Facebook post, the Sheriff’s Office said a man seen in surveillance video is a person of interest.

A 2008 Volkswagen Jetta was stolen between about 9:45 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. on April 15 outside a home in the 8200 block of Center Drive. Investigators believe the car was left unlocked with a window down and the keys inside it, the Sheriff’s Office reported.

The Jetta was recovered by St. Louis Police. The Sheriff’s Office did not say where or when the car was found, and spokesman Grant Bissell said investigators did not know the condition of the car.

The Sheriff’s Office posted a picture on Facebook of the man on April 19. Bissell said as of Thursday, April 25, the man has not been identified.

He asks anyone with information about the stolen car or the man in the picture to call the Sheriff’s Office at 636-797-5515 or email crimetips@jeffcomo.org. Any information received can remain anonymous, and the case number is 24-10189.
