Dog who has lived in shelter for more than 400 days looking for a new home
CINCINNATI (WXIX/Gray News) - An animal shelter in Ohio trying to find the perfect person to adopt a beloved dog who has been waiting for a new home for more than a year.
SPCA Cincinnati shared the story of 4-year-old Buddy, a large, tan and white mixed-breed who has been with them for more than 400 days.
According to an SPCA spokesperson, the post was later removed due to an outpouring of messages and to protect Buddy’s adoption process.
“Buddy’s story reached many people online yesterday and truly tugged at every heart,” Nyketa Gaffney, SPCA Cincinnati’s Senior Manager of Public Relations & Communications wrote in a statement to WXIX.
“Buddy has a unique profile which requires our humane society to be very selective and intentional about controlling his adoption process – so that he is matched appropriately with the right person in the right home. Because of his personality and strength, Buddy needs a dedicated leader who can focus on and nurture his amazing qualities,” Gaffney said in the statement. “We did not expect the tremendous response we received. The outpouring of support has been wonderful, and our organization is very grateful! However, the SPCA Cincinnati must remain diligent about Buddy’s adoption, working to ensure the next steps in his care are in his best interest. The post was pulled to safeguard that process.”
According to Buddy’s online profile, he has been spayed and neutered. His profile also says he is house-trained.
Those interested in adopting Buddy or other available animals are encouraged to visit SPCA Cincinnati’s website.
