LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Two people died in semi crash on Interstate 65 southbound in Austin, Indiana, late Monday night.

The crash happened about 11:50 p.m. on Interstate 65 southbound near the 33-mile marker, just south of the Austin exit.

Indiana State Police said in a news release that when they arrived, they found three semis that were involved in the crash and two of them were on fire.

Officers believe that a white Volvo semi was stopped due to traffic from construction near the 31-mile marker. A second semi then slowed to stop, but a third semi didn't slow down, hitting the second and causing that one to hit the first.

Huls confirmed that the drivers from the second and third semis died. The driver of the first semi was not injured.

Police said Friday the driver of the second semi was identified as 55-year-old Julianne Reid of Indianapolis and the driver of the third semi was 38-year-old Damion Calvin Stewart of Miami, Florida.

Investigators believe Stewart's semi initially struck Reid's from behind before both caught on fire.

A third person in one of trucks was flown to UofL Hospital with severe burn injuries, Huls said. The driver is in critical condition.

The interstate has been closed in the southbound direction for several hours Tuesday morning.

Huls posted on X around 12:45 p.m. Tuesday that all lanes were back open.
