BROOKINGS COUNTY, S.D. (KELO) — The Elkton School District is updating policies following an incident involving a convicted sex offender.

In a letter to parents, the Superintendent explained that a recent guest speaker is on the state registry.

Andrew Polly had sexual contact with a 15-year-old girl in 2017.

Following the incident at the school, Polly was charged with loitering in a safe zone. He’s currently out of jail on bond.

The superintendent says no students were in danger, but he wants to make policy changes to prevent future incidents.

First, he wants the administration to have more oversight of who is invited into classrooms.

Secondly, he wants the board and administration to have the authority to ban registered sex offenders from school grounds.

The School Board is scheduled to have a special meeting Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
