A woman was found shot to death in a residential area of El Monte Saturday morning, April 20, and Los Angeles County homicide detectives were investigating, authorities said.

Deputies were called to the 3800 block of Penn Mar Avenue, near Zamora Park and northwest of the 10 and 605 freeways, about 3:35 a.m. regarding a gunshot victim, Lt. Michael Gomez said.

Deputies arrived and found the woman, believed to be 40 to 45 years old, suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper body, Gomez said. She died at the scene.

The woman was not identified by authorities pending notification of her relatives.
