Nebraska Legislature set for first special session since 2021
Nebraska lawmakers are poised for a special session this year after Gov. Jim Pillen's property tax plan was killed.
"I will call as many sessions as it takes to finish the long overdue work of solving out property tax crisis," Pillen said.
The legislature's last special session was called in 2021 by speaker Mike Hilgers to address redistricting.

The session lasted 13 days, with lawmakers passing a new congressional map that keeps Douglas County whole in the 2nd District, which also includes parts of Sarpy and Saunders Counties.
In the end, all six redistricting bills covering the Congressional, Legislative, State Supreme Court, University of Nebraska Board of Regents, State Board of Education and Public Service Commission passed the final reading with at least 33 votes.
"This was a very frustrating process. But we got to a very good result," State Sen. Justin Wayne, the vice-chairperson of the legislature's Redistricting Committee, said in 2021.
"Everybody had to give, everybody," said the chairwoman of the committee, State Sen. Lou Ann Linehan.
Wayne added the redistricting process was the most transparent in Nebraska history and the maps will withstand any court challenge.
