The International Tennis Federation says it is "hitting pause" on the Hopman Cup for 2024 because of its proximity to the Olympic Games.

The mixed team event took place in Nice, France, in July 2023, and this year's Olympic tennis event at Roland Garros in Paris begins on 27 July.

The event will return in 2025.

"The players who had committed to this year's event have been informed and we look forward to seeing them," ITF president David Haggerty said.

The Spanish pairing of Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz and Paula Badosa were the first team confirmed for the 2024 Hopman Cup.

The event was held in Australia from 1989 until 2019 but after a four-year break it returned last year.

Haggerty added: "With both the Hopman Cup and Olympic Games due to take place in France this year, hitting pause on the Hopman Cup until 2025 is a sensible decision."
