Chandigarh: Chandigarh has finally got its first model vending zone in Manimajra. The engineering wing of the Chandigarh municipal corporation has completed its construction, using colour codes for different types of vends. The vending zone has a total of 91 sites, out of which 73 are for food-related businesses.
The project has come up at a cost of around Rs 38 lakh.
As the model code of conduct is still in place, allotment of the sites will be done after the Lok Sabha elections.
The decision to keep 73 vending sites purely for the food-related businesses has been taken to make the zone an attractive place for customers and profitable for vendors. The issue of model vending zone had been discussed and subsequently approved in the town vending committee a few months back.
The vending zone will have a garbage collection centre, facility of drinking water, a dedicated parking facility, lighting, proper connectivity and other facilities.
