SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - A man was arrested for impersonating a public official Thursday night, authorities say.

Nathan Jones of North Sioux City, South Dakota was arrested for allegedly impersonating law enforcement while at Bacon Creek Park on the night of Thursday, April 18.

Court documents say authorities got a report at about 8:30 p.m. of a man, later identified as Jones, attempting to perform traffic stops on parkgoers from his Nissan Rogue vehicle.

Authorities say when officers arrived and found Jones’s vehicle, he was wearing a Dakota County Sheriff’s Shirt and reportedly possessed a Silver Taurus .38 caliber 5-shot revolver. Jones was 20 years old during the time of the incident, which means he was not permitted to carry a dangerous weapon in Iowa.
