Explore Asheville initiates citywide cleanup on Earth Day

Travel and hospitality industry members participated in the first Explore Asheville Travel & Hospitality Earth Day Cleanup on Monday, April 22, 2024.

Groups fanned out across the city to public spaces like Carrier Park, cleaning up greenways and footpaths.

Explore Asheville, the city's tourism arm, sponsored the Earth Day cleanup with support from Asheville GreenWorks and RiverLink.

"Today's a great excuse for the people to get out in the community and show why they love the place they live," Elijah Charette, of RiverLink, said. "So, yeah, we were out here today sharing that passion for the environment and picking up some trash to make Asheville a little bit better."

ASHEVILLE, BUNCOMBE LEADERS HOLD EARTH DAY PRESS CONFERENCE

The tourism authority encouraged local organizations to take part. A total of 121 people signed up for five sites across the city, from West Asheville to South Slope.
