Cedar Rapids man charged with attempted murder and assault

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KWWL) -- A Cedar Rapids man has been charged with attempted murder and domestic assault charges after allegedly severely injuring his fiancé.

47-year-old Richard Brown, who turned himself in on Saturday, has been charged with:

  • Attempted Murder
  • Willful Injury with Serious Injury
  • Domestic Assault with Serious Injury

Cedar Rapids Police responded to a local hospital on Friday, April 19 after an adult woman was admitted with multiple severe injuries.

According to a criminal complaint, the woman was unrecognizable due to multiple facial injuries. Her injuries included a broken jaw, fractured orbital bones and at least seven broken ribs. 

Brown admitted to assaulting his fiancé, according to the criminal complaint. She has since been transferred to the University of Iowa Hospital to undergo several surgeries.

The investigation is ongoing.
