The Heat could find themselves in a spot where they need to keep living and dying by the 3-point shot to overcome Boston’s advantages in depth and overall roster talent. Miami lived large in that respect in a 111-101 victory on the Celtics’ home floor to knot the series at 1-1 and take its gutsy brand of basketball back to its home floor. The Heat were scorching from downtown to set a new franchise record with their 23 three-pointers while hitting 53.5 percent of those shots. In fact, Miami shot nearly 10 percent worse (43.8%) from inside the arc than it did collectively from distance. Six Heat players drilled at least two 3-pointers in the game, highlighted by guard Tyler Herro’s 6-of-11 showing in scoring a team-high 24 points.

The Celtics did enough to win Game 2 under many other circumstances, but in this one, they were hurt by Miami’s 3-point shooting and their own lack of offensive balance. Superstars Jayson Tatum (28 points) and Jaylen Brown (33) combined for 61 points on 23-of-43 shooting while the rest of the team connected on 14-of-37 field goals (37.8%) for just 40 points.
