Galax man to stand trial for April 2023 shooting

GALAX, Va. (WDBJ) - A Galax man’s trial begins Monday for charges in connection to an April 2023 shooting.

Tyrus David Miller, 23, is accused of second-degree murder and will stand trial at the Carroll County Circuit Court.

According to the Galax Police Department, officers responded to reports of shots fired on April 23, 2023 at 6:40 p.m. in the 100 block of Calloway St.

David Richardson, 33, of Galax was shot and pronounced dead at the scene. Miller sustained life-threating injuries and was transported to the hospital.

Police say their initial investigation found that the two victims shot each other. Miller was charged with second-degree murder and felony use of a firearm.

Miller is currently being held in the New River Valley Regional Jail without bond.
