There have also been unverified reports of vehicle fires associated with these vehicles
Ford is recalling more than 456,000 Bronco Sport SUVs from the 2021–2024 model years and Maverick pickup trucks from the 2022–2023 model years because the engine may lose power while driving. If this happens, drivers may not be able to accelerate or keep up with traffic, which could cause a crash. In addition, electrical accessories such as hazard lights may stop working.
Ford Bronco Sport and Maverick Recall Details
Vehicles Recalled
• Ford Bronco Sport SUVs manufactured between Feb. 5, 2020, and March 13, 2024
• Ford Maverick pickup trucks manufactured between Feb. 3, 2021, and Oct. 28, 2022
The problem: Both the Body Control Module (BCM) and Powertrain Control Module (PCM) were not calibrated properly. As a result, they could not detect if the vehicle’s 12-volt starter battery had degraded or failed, and the vehicle’s alternators could not keep up with electrical load demand.
The fix: Ford dealerships will recalibrate the BCM and PCM, free of charge.
How to contact the manufacturer: Owners may contact Ford at 866-436-7332.
NHTSA campaign number: 24V267. Ford’s own number for this recall is 24S24.
Check to see whether your vehicle has an open recall: NHTSA’s website will tell you whether your vehicle has any open recalls that need to be addressed.
If you plug your car’s 17-digit vehicle identification number (VIN) into NHTSA’s website and a recall doesn’t appear, it means your vehicle doesn’t currently have any open recalls. Because automakers issue recalls often, and for many older vehicles, we recommend checking back regularly to see whether your vehicle has had a recall issued.
