Cody Knight, 33, of Woodville is accused of shooting Ernest Williams in the head causing wounds that he would later die from. Knight is now charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Murder. His bond has been set at a total of $1 million dollars in bail.

Cody Knight, the thirty-three year old Woodville man, who was arrested last week and charged with Aggravated Assault With a Deadly Weapon following the alleged shooting of a man has now been charged with murder.

The upgrade in charges came on Monday afternoon after it was learned that the victim of the incident, Ernest Williams, 35, also of Woodville had died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Houston.

Knight, who was already in Tyler County Jail, where he was being held under $500,000 bond is now facing $1 million in bail.

A motive of the alleged shooting has not been stated by investigators but officers say the series of events began on Thursday April 18th, just before midnight, when deputies with the Tyler County Sheriff's Department received a report that a shooting had occurred at a home on County Road 4770 near Warren. Upon their arrival at the scene Sheriff Bryan Weatherford said they found Ernest Williams suffering from a gunshot wound to his head. Williams was taken to a Houston hospital, where he was treated before sucumbing to his injuries.

Based on information obtained at the scene of the shooting, deputies soon identified Knight as suspect in the case and obtained a warrant before converging on a home on County Road 4400, near Town Bluff, where a search was performed and Knight was taken into custody.

Officers have said a firearm which was alleged to have used in the shooting has been found and logged in as evidence in the case.

The investigation into the incident is continuing.
