LUPTON, Ariz. (KVOA) – Closed lanes have reopened and an evacuation order has been lifted following a derailment fire on Interstate 40.

Eastbound and westbound of Interstate 40 are back open following a fire caused by a train derailment along the Arizona-New Mexico border.

The fire began Friday, after a train carrying non-odorous propane and gasoline derailed from the train track.

Many I-40 lanes near the derailment were closed as officials planned to move in and tackle the fire.

An evacuation order was issued for residents within a two mile radius of the fire, but the order has since been lifted.

McKinley County Fire Rescue says that air monitoring will continue around the site. They say that results do not indicate any concern for air quality.

All local, state, federal and tribal public agencies, along with BNSF continue to work together within Unified Command to ensure the safety of the public.
