Motorcyclist killed in 2-vehicle crash near Brighton

A 44-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a crash Sunday night in western Jefferson County.

The wreck happened at 9:10 p.m. in the 4400 block of Ninth Avenue North in the Brighton area, according to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.

Jayce Bernard Johnson, of Dolomite, was the driver and lone occupant of the motorcycle. He was pronounced dead on the scene at 10:50 p.m.

Authorities initially said the crash involved a hit-and-run. That information was later updated to say the the driver involved in the crash remained on the scene and called 911.

Brighton police and firefighters responded, as did the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation is ongoing by sheriff’s wreck investigators.
