SPRINGFIELD — The tide has turned for two tenants of a condemned home in the city’s Pine Point neighborhood after the new owners and city officials last month encountered the house smeared with pet excrement, housing dozens of malnourished dogs and clouds of flies throughout.

A Western Housing Court judge reversed a previous decision that required new co-owners Rebecca Hayward and Michael Brown to put the two tenants up in a motel for the last two weeks after the city condemned the entire property for unsanitary living conditions. The overall label, while effective, was not as illuminating as the scene inside.
