Danville is preparing for its annual celebration of all things “Star Wars” next weekend, with May 4 marking an informal yet widespread commemorative day for the enduringly popular franchise.

This year marks the town’s ninth annual celebration of the unofficial Star Wars Day, with the occasion being inspired by a play on words of one of the franchise’s most well-known quotes — “May the force be with you.”

Fans of all ages are invited to the family-friendly event, which kicks off with two pancake breakfast seatings from 8:15-9:15 a.m. next Saturday and from 9:30-10:30 a.m.

Festivities will continue at 11 a.m., with a scavenger hunt list being available for pickup at the Danville Community Center and a “grab bag of treasures from a galaxy far, far away” available to the first 100 participants to complete the hunt, according to an announcement from town officials.

Later in the day, children can develop their powers in the force with Jedi Training at the Town Green from 4-5:30 p.m., with all ages being invited to a costume contest there starting at 6 p.m. The event will culminate in a special screening of “Return of the Jedi” at sundown. More information and registration is available at danville.ca.gov/maythe4th.
