Two teenagers are facing criminal charges, accused of leading multiple agencies on a dangerous high-speed chase in Stockton.
Deputies with the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office attempted to pull over the driver of a white Kia sedan at around 12:30 p.m., but the 16-year-old failed to yield.
"The suspect vehicle hit multiple vehicles in an effort to not be apprehended," said Heather Brent, a spokesperson with the sheriff's office.
After a 23-mile evasion, deputies performed a 'legal intervention' ending the pursuit at Hammer Lane and Pershing Avenue in Stockton.
The teenage driver, who had a warrant for his arrest, and the passenger – also a minor – are booked at the San Joaquin County Juvenile Justice Center, pending charges.
One witness, who asked to be identified as MG and who was stuck in traffic, told KCRA 3 that she heard when law enforcement ordered the teenagers out of the car.
Despite at one point, fearing for her life, she said, "It just comes down to Stockton taking care of our youth and giving our youth different opportunities, so that they don't have knuckleheads and do these types of things."
