Police arrest 3rd suspect in recent drive-by shooting case

Apr. 13—A third suspect has been arrested in connection with a drive-by shooting that happened earlier this month on Magnolia Avenue in Milledgeville, The Union-Recorder has learned.

No one was injured in the shooting, which damaged a house and a vehicle next door, local authorities said.

The latest suspect was identified Thursday afternoon as 19-year-old Ahmoud Simmons of Milledgeville, according to Maj. Linc Boyer, road patrol commander with the Milledgeville Police Department.

Simmons, who was taken into custody by police detectives on April 3, was charged with three counts of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, criminal damage to property, and giving a false statement to a law enforcement officer.

He is being held without bond in jail at the Baldwin County Law Enforcement Center.

Two other suspects were arrested for the April 1 driveway shooting of a house on the 200 block of Magnolia Avenue. They, like Simmons, are being held without bond.

After their arrests, the pair were identified as Antonio Williams and Nicholas Simpson, both of Milledgeville.

Boyer said Williams was charged with the same offenses as Simmons, while Simpson was charged with three counts of being party to the crime of aggravated assault.

Police detectives have been aided in the investigation of the drive-by shooting case by special agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Gang Task Force, Baldwin County Sheriff's Office and Georgia State Patrol post in Milledgeville.

All of the agencies assisted police officers and detectives when the shootings happened and the day after when a manhunt ensued after one of the suspects was spotted sitting in a vehicle in the Harrisburg neighborhood.

The sighting led to a foot chase with a state trooper, and a brief vehicle chase with a second suspect before they both were taken into custody.

As of Friday afternoon, authorities were still searching for a fourth suspect believed to have been involved in the drive-by shooting case.

Anyone with information concerning the case is asked to call the Milledgeville Police Department at 478-414-4090 or the Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 478-762-2330.
